Amilcar de Castro

Amilcar De Castro was a sculptor, engraver, draughtsman, designer, and lecturer. He began his life studying law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in the 1930s, but in 1940s he abandoned his career as a lawyer to begin studying and making art, notably sculpture. Under the influence of Max Bill and other Concrete artists in Brazil, he developed his first concrete sculptures, which were exhibited at the 2nd São Paulo Biennial, in 1953.
