Anna Lucia x Gee's Bend Quilters: Generations
Generations is a collaboration between Anna Lucia and the quilters of Gee’s Bend. In the 19th century, enslaved workers in Gee’s Bend, Alabama developed a unique quilting tradition that echoed African textile patterns. Isolated from outside influences, they created stunning abstract designs that have become recognized as modern art masterpieces, reflecting a rich intergenerational narrative. Gee’s Bend quilts have been collected by major museums and inspired various cultural tributes, including official First Lady portraits and high-profile fashion shows. The algorithmic code that Lucia created for Generations is based on these quilts.
