Claudia Fontes

Argentinian

Born 1964

Lives and works in Brighton, England

Claudia Fontes’ work takes the form of an extensive auto-anthropology: an investigation into the forms of human behavior once it is stripped of the common discourses and clichés that surround it. Her engagement with the possibilities of sculpture as a medium, through which she effectively explores questions of scale and relation, is a constant throughout her career. At two ends of the spectrum are her large marble dust and resin sculptures at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017), and her series of Foreigners (2014-2021), small-scale porcelain figures that seem to carry the physical marks of intimacy and emotional porosity.
