ZENTRUM, originally created in 1982 on an Apple II computer, is a continuously running abstract animation featuring unique, ever-changing loops generated by random codes. Despite being developed on a limited home computer, ZENTRUM showcases Franke’s pioneering work in dynamic digital sequences. The NFT series uses his original 1982 code, which he was working to bring fully on-chain at the time of his death. The transition of code to blockchain was finished by Aaron Penne, artist and director of engineering at Art Blocks, with assistance from Susanne Päch, wife of Herbert W. Franke.
