everything vs nothing
A suited man works at his desk. He organizes his papers. Charts flicker across his screen. The desk is cluttered with documents: a coffee mug, a stack of files. Each artwork is composed of looping elements — a repetition that at times is barely perceptible, and at other times dominates the image. In nearly all of the works from this series, the viewer assumes the role of an observer, almost that of a voyeur — seeing the scene without being seen. At times, the perspective is detached, viewed from above; in others, the camera moves fluidly with the scene and subject(s). Loops are the key elements that hypnotically draw the viewer into Pease’s depictions of everyday life. Repetition is both the content and the form. The repetitive processes of daily tasks are portrayed in endless loops.
This series was released following the artist's 30 day residency at Glitch Marfa in 2024.
Controlled Chaos
Controlled Chaos depicts a man engaging in his desk job on the side of a California freeway as the world devolves into chaos around him. This looping scene echos society's current habit of zoning in on the screens in front of us, unaware (or perhaps willfully ignorant of) the chaotic and often treacherous world churning around us. Renowned for his video art, Pease crafts surreal, hypnotic realities blending nature, architecture, and urban life. His work explores the subconscious, inviting viewers to confront the intersection of fear, wonder, and modern detachment.
