Luz Carabaño

Venezuelan

Born 1995

Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA

Luz Carabaño makes small-scale paintings that explore perceptual and sensorial shifts. Their tiny scale also is reminiscent of significant aspects of her life, in her emigration from Venezuela to the US, evoking thoughts of fragmentation and displacement. None of Carabaño’s paintings have the same shape: each has its own individuality and specificity, but there is clearly a family resemblance between them. Rather, the forms seem resolutely of this world, mutating and fluctuating in accord with the same principles as the natural world. Her images are equally nebulous — indistinct, as a memory might float at the edge of consciousness but grounded in the details that surround us.
