Lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Marcia Schvartz is one of the most influential figures in Argentine art since the 1980s, recognized for her expressive paintings that capture the political history of Argentina. As a young, politically active artist, following the right-wing military coup in 1976 that overthrew Isabel Péron, Schvartz exiled herself to Spain, not returning to Argentina until 1983. Since then, the populist politics of her youth have continued to influence her work and her sensitive portrayals of those from working-class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.
