William Mapan is a digital artist who blends his software development background with a passion for pigment, light, and texture. After a decade as a creative developer, he began focusing more seriously on art upon discovering NFTs in 2018. Mapan’s abstract digital paintings are celebrated for their unique interplay of color and texture, evoking emotions akin to traditional materials.
Distance
Distance is a series of computational artworks created by Mapan as a part of LACMA’s Remembrance of Things Future initiative, in which contemporary artists experimenting with blockchain technology are invited to respond to works in the museum. Distance is Mapan’s homage to Paul Klee’s iconic 1914 watercolor, In the Kairouan Style, Transposed in a Moderate Way, in LACMA’s encyclopedic collection. It is an exploration of color, form and the ability of code to give rise to painterly, organic textures.

Anticyclone
Anticyclone is a generative NFT series exploring the planetary-scale weather phenomenon of anticyclones, embodying themes of calm, power, and rotation. Using a paper-and-crayon-inspired aesthetic, the series evokes a traditional, analog feel while challenging the question, “Can a computer draw like a human?” With its depiction of high pressure, air flow, and cyclical motion, Anticyclone instills a sense of awe at nature’s grandeur, blending digital innovation with the organic intimacy of hand-drawn art.
